I want to get a set of golf clubs, and I am still learning the game. I went to Golf Galaxy where I live, and they said that I need 2 Inch extenders, Jumbo Grips, and Bent To 5 Degrees. To do all of that, they want to charge 100 dollars, is that a fair price or am I getting screwed. That is just for a set of irons.

i use king cobras with a graphite shaft, they have a huge sweet spot and are light, and a set will cost around $250. as for drivers and woods, acuity and ping all the way

Go to a generic sporting goods store or pawn shop to find the best deal on a set of irons and woods that feel good to you.

What is your plan with golf? Do you just want to play for the fun and hanging out with friends? Or do you plan on becoming a serious golfer in the future? What’s the total price they want to charge and what clubs are they?

If you just want to play recreationaly you are probably good with just the stock out of the box clubs. I would try hitting different brands of clubs to figure out if they feel right and if you like the look of them. I would also suggest a demo set of clubs. You can usually borrow clubs from the big warehouse stores. I believe they will put the rental price towards future purchases.

If you are truly serious about your game, you would want to be fitted. These clubs are made to fit you perfectly. They fit your height, swing plane and tend to be more accurate because they are fit for your swing. Did you try the jumbo grips? Do they feel good or not? Truly $100 more for fitted clubs does not sound too much to me, but you should be the judge. Compare prices between stores and do some on-line research.

Good luck…

Wait a minute, you said they want to bend your clubs. You didn’t say you already had clubs, which clubs are they bending? They evidently were fitting you to some clubs, which evidently didn’t fit you.If you don’t own clubs you should get fitted, and you should be able to have them made to your swing, body capabilities, finger grip.etc. and being fitted is a good thing. If they are already your clubs, having them made to fit you isn’t a bad thing, and its cheaper than buying new ones.If you haven’t bought any yet,you can have clubs made to your swing speed, arm reach, and weight needed, and finger grip.
Evidently your fingers are too big for the grips on the clubs,so new grips are needed.New grips need to have old ones replaced, that alone can cost $100 having them bent is also plus.Your loft must be needing changed so they are bending them for you.

No it is not a bad deal, but how did they come to this conclusion. Are you a tall person who has big hands. the only reason for extensions is for someone taller than 6 foot 3 inches and if you need a bigger rounder grip your hands have to be large as well. The hundred bucks also depends on what kind of clubs they are doing them for. If the are cheap clubs then it isn’t worth it. My suggestion would be to go to GOLF SMITH and see the club fitter there. I have been playing golf since the age of 8 and I am 37 know. I recently has back surgery and my old clubs were not suitable for me any more base on the stiffness of the shaft and launch angle. I went to golf smith had them analyze my swing. they measure you’re swinspeed launch angle and spin rate. Based on all that info they will build you a set from thr ground up for a very reasonable price. And their equipment is good. I have the SNAKE Eyes Python irons and they way they set them up I am hitting the ball great. I couldn’t be happier.

I’m 6′4 and they told me about the same thing, I went with Cleveland Launchers (irons) and they work just fine, the only cost about $200, last year they listed at $599.

Yes it’s fair - playing golf you probably spend a lot more on woodens tees and golf balls then a one time charge for club fitting.

$100 is really not that much, but you can get a set of custom clubs and they will do all that for no extra charge. If you’re looking at cheap sets of clubs (like $300 or less) go ahead and do it, but if you’re more into the premium sets, look into custom clubs. See if there is a kz golf (www.kzgolf.com) fitter in your area. They will set you up with clubs just as good as any major brands and they will cost the same or less than brands like Ping, Callaway, or Titleist.
